Vocational Training for Job Creation in Renewable Energy Value Chain in Uganda

This project was implemented as a partnership between Makerere University Kampala and The Royal Norwegian Society for Development (Norges Vel), Norway from August 2017 – December 2022.
Project Funder: Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kampala.
Development goal: To contribute to the increased employability among the youth and young adults in the renewable energy in Uganda.
20 youth and young adult women are engaged in the RE businesses value chain
An arena for information and knowledge-sharing and/or exchange is implemented and organized
120 students received scholarships (50 graduated and acquired certificates; 70 students enrolled to pursue engineering courses in vocational institutions)
119 students were supported to pursue National Diplomas in Electrical, Mechanical and Water Engineering; (48%) females, (52%) males at Uganda Technical Colleges; Kichwamba and Bushenyi campuses; and Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education (BRIBTE).
Fourteen (14) entrepreneurs out of which, 5 are female led and 9 are male led under the business incubation programme are all operational.
220 jobs created ; 70 direct and approximately 150 indirect employment opportunities created in the established renewable energy businesses.
Approximately 7,000 people have access to clean energy in Uganda. This is contributing to improved clean energy access and reducing CO2 emissions in Uganda.
